Nicaragua Relocation Retirement Tour

Day 1
Managua

  • Arrive at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport where you will be greeted by your English speaking host
  • Private transfer 1 km to the beautiful Hotel Camino Real
  • Settle in and enjoy the afternoon and evening at your leisure

Day 2
Managua & Granada

  • Meet your group and host for breakfast
  • After introductions and a walk through of the week’s agenda visit various shopping venues in Managua including PricesmartSinsa and a local shopping mall
  • Enjoy a typical Nicaraguan lunch at a locally owned restaurant
  • Tour the Vivian Pellas Metropolitano Hospital
  • Transfer 1 hour to the colonial city of Granada 
  • Join your group for dinner at an expat owned restaurant
  • Evening at your leisure

Day 3
Granada

  • Expat guided walking tour & orientation of Granada
    • Visit the market, a local pharmacy and an expat owned art studio & cafe
    • Learn what’s required to open a bank account in Nicaragua
    • Climb to the top of the bell tower of La Merced church where you can take in sprawling views of the city, Lake Nicaragua and Mombacho Volcano
    • Visit central park and take in the sights of the “Calzada”
  • After lunch tour Las Isletas on Lake Nicaragua by boat where you’ll visit some 365 small volcanic islands
  • Join your group for dinner at an expat favored restaurant
  • Take some time this evening to explore the “Calzada” on your own
    • Savour a cup of locally grown coffee, sample some tasty gelato or sip a Toña (local beer) or smooth Flor de Caña (local rum)

Day 4
Granada & León

  • Meet with a lawyer who will tell you all you need to know about purchasing real estate in Nicaragua
  • Meet a local real estate agent who will show you 3 to 4 rental and real estate options in various neighborhoods in Granada
  • After lunch transfer 2 hours to Nicaragua’s second largest city León
  • Enjoy dinner with your group while discussing pros & cons of living in Granada 
  • Take some time on your own to check out the evening social scene in León

Day 5
León

  • Expat guided walking tour & orientation of León 
    • Visit the local market, grocery store and an expat owned bakery
    • Explore central park and observe incredible views of the city from the rooftop of Cathedral of León
  • After lunch travel 20 minutes to the nearby beaches of Poneloya and Las Penitas
    • Spend the afternoon relaxing at a Canadian owned beach bar and restaurant
    • Learn to make the popular Nicaraguan appetizer known as “ceviche”
  • Join your group and host for dinner at a Nicaraguan favored restaurant
  • Enjoy the evening at your leisure

Day 6
León & San Juan del Sur

  • Meet with a local real estate agent who will show you 3 – 4 different properties in León
  • Over lunch discuss the pros and cons of living in León 
  • Transfer 2.5 hours to the beach town of San Juan del Sur
  • Enjoy dinner at one of our favorite restaurants 
  • Take some time on your own to check out the evening social scene in San Juan
    • Depending on the night join some other expats for trivia or tune into some live music

Day 7
San Juan del Sur

  • Expat guided walking tour & orientation of San Juan del Sur
    • Discover where expats shop for both locally sourced items and imported food products
    • Learn how to obtain a local phone number and post office box; also learn what’s required to bring your pet into Nicaragua
  • Enjoy lunch with your group at an expat owned restaurant
  • Travel 20 minutes to the beautiful Playa Hermosa and enjoy an afternoon of sun, sand and surf
  • After dinner choose to spend a quiet evening in or venture out on your own to explore some more of San Juan “after dark”

Day 8
San Juan del Sur

  • Meet with a lawyer who will answer questions about the process of obtaining residency and the importation of household goods and vehicles
  • After lunch meet with a real estate agent who will show you a selection of 3 – 4 rental and real estate properties in and around town 
  • Delight in a spectacular sunset and delicious dinner at a popular beach front restaurant in the company of new friends
    • Wrap up the evening with final questions and discussions about relocation to Nicaragua

Day 9
Managua

  • Private transfer 2.5 hours from Hotel Victoriano in San Juan del Sur to the airport in Managua
  • Board your flight home and say, “Adios to Nicaragua” for now
