There are a few surf shops and hostels in San Juan del Sur that offer shuttle service to here. At low tide Playa Maderas has wonderful sandy stretches great for sunbathing. A 4 x 4 is recommended for travel to Playa Maderas. Sometimes called Los Playones, Maderas is a slow wave in fairly deep (2m) water, good for beginners, with two right and two left breaks that get hollow on a rising tide. From Playa Maderas you can walk 10 minutes around the corner and over the rocks to Playa Majagual. There are 3 restaurants located directly on the beach. From left to right: Mi Rancho, Tacos Locos & Los Tres Hermanos. Mi Rancho Dorm beds and private rooms are available at Los Tres Hermanos. Surf boards and lessons are always available at Playa Maderas. Los Tres Hermanos specials menu changes daily. Local artisans selling handcrafted jewelery.
